Display - OLED Panels Hit Mass Production at ST Liquid Crystal Display

Sony has confirmed that the mass production of 3.8" full color OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) panels began in early September 2004. ST Liquid Crystal Display, at a fifty-fifty joint venture with Toyota Industries in central Japan, currently has a monthly capacity of 300,000 2" OLED panels.
Mass production, which had previously been slated for ramp up in the second quarter of 2004, was delayed due to technological issues.
Although total monthly output has not been announced, the panels are expected to be used primarily for new Clie PDAs set for roll-out in late September. Monthly production of these PDAs is said to be around 1,000 units.
